RE: Oops, go back to sleep!

You know, I for one am sick of every discussion about a slider that the SuperGlide fan club has to show up to tell everyone that they should have bought one. Yes, we all know it is out there. Yes, we all know what it does. Yes, we all know you love it. Just add it to your sig and quit threadcrapping at every opportunity. I can tell you that I will get out and pull a lever and learn to pay attention when turning for many, many years before paying thousands to not have to. I suspect I am not the only one based on the number of people who use sliders. It's a personal choice. There is nothing wrong with choosing to use a slider and I don't think that telling everyone that has a question about them to spend thousands to replace their perfectly functional hitch is a reasonable answer to their questions unless they are asking about replacing their hitch. It's like telling every SuperGlide owner to replace their truck with a long bed every time they have a question about their hitch, it's just obnoxious. As for the OPs situation, I think that taking a little bit more care when you first slide it to make sure it's locked in will avoid that situation. You should be able to just glance over your shoulder and know if it's slid and locked it by the position of the lever. Superglide? Did someone say Superglide? Is this where I am suppose to jump in and highjack the tread? I think someone woke up on the wrong side of the campground. To the OP its like anything else with these rigs you have to be careful and check everything twice before moving because when you think you have it all under control they will show you up in a minute. Happy camping!

RE: Superglide bangs unhitched

This is new to me because mine has never moved at all when unhitched. Learn something new every day I guess.

RE: Phrases thought to be local, but are used everywhere.

In Maryland, this sign appears in store windows in summer,"Steamed Males." Who, not from Maryland, knows what it means? Has to be crabs.

RE: Power tugs

I would want it at home also. I would try it with your truck first and see what changes you would need to make to your driveway first. The loadwmaster has to be at least a couple grand for one big enough to move a 5er. Better to put that money in your own property than a hand truck on steroids:E. Two grand would buy a good bit of concrete.

RE: Camping on 99 cents. (pics)

Wow, I have been gone a few days and never thought I would have so many positive replys! This was a lot of work but it came out great and I understand why so many people said they wish they had space to do the same. After living in Seattle and Baltimore before here I know what you mean. We have 5 acres and a beautiful home with pool that is a dream come true for us. Doing this was like icing on the cake. The shop was also a dream of mine and I designed it and had it built to my specs. Wireing, plumbing, heating and bathroom were all done by me so the toys would have a nice place to sleep at night. We did not want to live in a subdivision again after being threatened because our name was not on the mailbox exactly where the HOA said it should be. If you like someone having that much control over your property then I say great but I said never again. I hope someday when we sell the house all the RV friendly things we have done will pay off but for now we will continue to enjoy our own private campground. Thanks for the many kind words.

RE: Sidewinder, Superglide or HiJacker

Yes 38 ft(4 slides) with a F250...Hitch Weight is 1850, Unloaded Vehicle Weight is 11549, and GVWR is 15000. Yea its a little on the edge. I would bet its over the edge sliding down the other side.:E But to the question at hand, I have the SuperGlide and it is great but I did not have another hitch prior so no extra holes in my bed. Have heard good things about the Sidewinder so it might be your best bet.

RE: Portable Generator

Chained it to the bed of the truck between the hitch and the cab. Same thing I do.

RE: Where do you weigh your trailer?

$7.50 at the local truck stop with CAT scales. Very easy and good info to know.

RE: New RV garage

It is great having a indoor place to keep the RV. I just finished the bathroom in my shop and added a inside facet to fill the water tank while indoors. http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/Picture192.jpg width=640 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/DSCF0159.jpg width=640

Camping on 99 cents. (pics)

A couple of months ago I was talking to a neighbor down the road from us about our house since he was a good friend of the man who built it 10 years ago. I had noticed a utility pole on the back side of the property with the wires cut off at the top of the pole but figured maybe they had a utility shed or something back there so I ask him about it. He told me that there was a mobile home back there and they stayed in it while the house was being built. It took me about two seconds to figure out then there must be water and sewer back there also. After some digging I found out there was a septic tank and 3/4" water line all within 20 feet of the pole. I had instant visions of the ultimate at home campsite. A lot of clearing, 62 yard timbers, 25 tons of dirt, 20 tons of gravel, some electrical and plumbing work, a little blood sweat and tears ( I did all the work myself)and it was done. Total cost was only $1250.It really came out nice and is in a beautiful spot thats easy to get in and out of. I decided to build the picnic table and add the fire ring and in ground lighting to top it off. Now many will say camping at home is not the same as going somewhere and you are right but, we enjoy staying in the camper and for us its a change if we can't travel or have things to do around the house. I have even gone up and built a campfire and just chilled for a while. It really is relaxing. I figured it cost me about 99 cents to pull the camper up there and back so you can't beat the price. Plus I can crank up the stereo, leave my tacky lights on all night, let the dog run loose and even wash it if I want. For us it works well and if your ever in Fayetteville and need a place to stay just let me know. http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/CIMG0217.jpg width=640 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/CIMG0215.jpg width=640 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/CIMG0218.jpg width=640 My other project was to complete my bathroom in the shop.(yes me and Al Bundy had a dream) It came out nice and nothing beats your own throne in the garage! http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/Picture192.jpg width=640 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/DSCF0159.jpg width=640 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/DSCF0161.jpg width=640 I also added a 30 amp rv outlet inside and out plus a water faucet so I can fill up the water tank without pulling the camper outside. Lifes good!!

RE: Generator recommendations?

Here's a simple solution to determine what type of generator you would like to have. Take out your gasoline fired lawn mower. Fire it up and run it at full power. Now, place your tent, tt or camper next to your generator. Go inside your camper and close the door. Would you like to have that loud lawn mower engine noise in your campground for any length of time? No you wouldn't. The test is even more effective if you conduct it at let's say, 9pm. That will simulate very quiet conditions within your camp ground and really piss off your neighbors. Just like in a real camp ground. You'll discover that the lawn mower is wayyyyyy toooo loud to run and disturbes the peace and quiet of a nice camp ground. Now, while you're listening to that LOUD lawn mower engine, realize that the Champion, Colemans, etc... all sound like that LOUD lawn mower! Would that LOUD lawn mower noise maker bother you or perhaps your camping neighbors? YES IT WOULD. So would the Champion and other cheap generators. Don't be cheap by buying a LOUD "lawn mower" powered generator. Get a nice Honda or Yamaha. They are very quiet. Nothing beats them. You get what you pay for. You'll thank yourself after your purchase. I'm partial to the Hondas because they are even lighter in weight than the Yamahas. My lawn mower is a Honda so I did not hear much of anything.:S

RE: Surge Guard or Progressive

I've just ordered the Progressive HW 30C. I'll be doing a permanent hard-wired installation in the open area behind my breaker panel. I went this route because I don't want to worry about theft or accidentally leaving an expensive piece of gear behind plus I won't have to worry about where to store yet another piece of "setting up / tearing down camp" equipment. I also like the remote panel with the HW30C, but then again I'm an electrical engineer and like toys! Your mileage may vary ... This is what I installed about 4 months ago and it is great. Shortly after I put it in the metal building my camper stays parked in took a lightning hit and the camper was plugged in. The outlet the camper was plugged into also had a microwave oven plugged into. The microwave was toast and the camper was fine and even showed on the display that an over voltage event had happened. I like being able to monitor the voltage coming in and the amps my camper is using. The PI HW30 gets my vote hands down.

RE: Video link: Someone didn't watch their clearance!

Someone's insurance rates are going up!!! That's also sorry workmanship or design on the awning for it to come down like that. I have seen many service station canopies hit and they tear the roof off the trailer not collapse like that one did. Happened July 2nd, bet they were headed out for a nice long 4th weekend. Bummer, goes to show how things can change in a blink.:( And caught on tape for all to see.

RE: Laredo 5th wheeler

We love our 29RL and the super glide is the only way to go especially in conjunction with a Brakesmart controller.

A/C air flow

I was on the roof of my trailer yesterday with the a/c running and noticed it was blowing hot air out the sides instead of the rear. This struck me as odd because all window units I have ever seen blow out the back through the condenser. I also noticed the cold line coming out the bottom of the compressor was not insulated before it went into the evaporator housing. I sent an e-mail to RVP this morning and they confirmed that is how its built. ( This is a Mach 3 unit ) It makes no sense to me why you would blow hot air on the compressor and fan motor instead of cooler air. I have sent another e-mail asking them why and have not received a response yet. If they respond I will post it here. In the mean time does any one have any insight on this design?
